Of Blood and Ashes: Of Cinder and Bone Book 2Written By: Kyoko ME-book version: 334 pagesSold By: Amazon Digital Services LLCGrade: A+Beware of Spoilers!Of Blood and Ashes is a well-crafted plate of angst, romance, betrayal and action topped with dragons.Of Blood and Ashes starts out with Kamala’s shocking pregnancy. Instead of picking out wallpaper for the nursery, she and her lanky baby daddy, Jack are tasked with securing Baba Yaga the dragon before the yakuza can strike first. Readers are treated to a fantastic display of a pregnant woman’s strength and courage when the mission in Japan goes south and Kamala has to capture a live dragon, fight off a bitchy Scottish agent, and save her baby daddy. This book is a refreshing addition to the Sci-fi/ Adventure genre much like its predecessor, Of Cinder and Bone. Unlike many other Sci-fi novels, Of Blood and Ashes is a successful combination of an established fictional universe and realistic human interactions. For example, Kyoko provided complex scientific backgrounds for the dragon’s existence as well as heartbreaking interactions between the characters. The Of Cinder and Bone universe is one crafted of science and fantasy. Kyoko blends historic and scientific information in way that will make readers believe that dragons could exist. For example, it is revealed that Baba Yaga has sacks in her body that help her produce fire. This same attention is applied to social issues that anyone could relate to, like relationship issues. Attraction is messy. Relationships are messy. Love is the Titanic crashing into a big ass iceberg. After reading over five of Kyoko M’s novels, I can say that she is a master at capturing how difficult love and relationships are in the lives of fictional characters. For example, Of Blood and Ashes does a beautiful job of displaying how difficult is to just be attracted to your roommate and your roommate’s baby daddy! It is 2018, after all.Of Blood and Ashes is a wonderful read. Each chapter is a chaotic romantic adventure that will leave readers aching for the next installment of the series. In the meantime, readers can check out book one of the Of Cinder and Bone series and The Black Parade Series.Review by: Andi C
