I'm enjoying this series and have read the books in order - this is the 4th. DI Lizzie Archer has transferred from London after a disfiguring incident, DS Baines' wife was murdered and his son kidnapped, but that's all in the past, and both are making new lives and careers, slowly but surely. They are a comfortable duo, supportive of each other with no romantic overtones. This fourth tale has a few threads - a hit and run death, a murdered woman whose body is found in a remote wood, kidnapping of 12-year olds, all on the plate of Baines and Archer as well as much-maligned DI Ashby, and temporarily assigned, Amy Petrescu. It's a good ensemble cast. I don't usually finger the culprit early on, but I did in this case. It didn't really detract from my enjoyment; I just felt a bit like a member of the team. There were some surprises, however, and the end was fully satisfying, all threads tied up nicely. I'll be looking for the next installment, revisiting these enjoyable characters.
