Both seasons are about homicides that are "all in the family." The perpetrators turn out not to be surprising, but the circumstances and motivations for the murders are. As such there are 2 suspenseful mysteries.The series offers a window into an Ireland changing from being from faith providing the glue to a secular urban European culture with attitudes about homosexuality, the role of women, and the acceptability of suicide in transition accompanied by drugs penetrating the countryside from Dublin. Neither the old verities nor the new nostrums provide satisfactory answers for the problems leading to the murdersDunbar's portrayal of a father whom we hate at the beginning but learn that his character is complicated and in some ways admirable is superb as is the portrayal of each of the 3 children, especially the daughters.
