Description
The second book in a new urban fantasy series featuring mosquito-sized fairies with poisonous bites that drive humans insane. It's only been three weeks since Annabelle helped solve the murder of Grace Beauchamp, and in the process, she discovered a secret world of invisible, magic-working people who have decided she might have what it takes to join their ranks. As best as she can determine, Annabelle’s attack by a group of fairies has infected her with paranormal ability she did not previously possess, including being able to mentally move objects and heal wounds. Her new abilities appear to have few negative side effects, aside from creepy dreams. But would that change if she stopped injecting herself with the mystery drug delivered to her by the even more mysterious Tucker, one of the Invisibles? Leery of trusting criminals with her health, Annabelle wishes she had someone she could talk to about the changes in her life. Enter Hitch, FBI agent and Annabelle’s ex, who’s back in Donaldsonville on an off-the-books investigation. Hitch suspects that there’s a government-funded illegal lab that’s developing a controversial fairy-killing spray that could adversely affect the existence of every living thing in the delta—including humans. And Hitch and Annabelle will have to find a way to work together if they're going to find a way to shut it down.

I really did enjoy this book. Until I got to the last chapter which was set six weeks after the events of the rest of the book.*MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD*If I'm being honest, however, there were some issues even before the disaster of an epilogue occured. My main one being the way that Hitch behaved. I get that him and Annabelle still love each other and have unresolved issues, but when he first came into town he did nothing to show that he had a fiance and child that were in danger. At a certain point in the book, it's like a switch is flipped and suddenly he's uber worried about them and would do absolutly anything to save them, even abandon Annabelle to what he thinks are criminals after hearing gunshots fired at her.Still, I was able to shrug that and numerous other character indiscrepancies away (although I still don't see why the Big Man would save her from the lab only to blow up the bike. I mean, really, where was the logic in that?). What I wasn't able to just shrug away was the ending. I would have given this book 5 stars if that chapter had been left off. As it is, its pushing it to give it 4.The last chapter had me gaping open-mouthed in confused horror. Cane, the guy that Annabelle was actually considering spending her life with, is suddenly and violently tossed away "because he's been distant and she doesn't think he proposed for the right reasons." Seriously, wtf?!?! Firstly, he basically proposed in the last book. His mother pressuring him would be a moot point since he has already told Annabelle that he wants to marry her numerous times. And I'm sure that Annabelle screwing Tucker had nothing to do with the distance between her and Cane *insert sarcastic eye roll here* This was the guy that she was considering spending her life with at the start of the book, and I just can't see what changed so drastically in Annabelle's feelings between the main part of the book and the "Six Weeks Later" part.Moving on to Tucker. Annabelle admits that there's more between them than just sex, that there are feelings involved. Okay, I suppose I can get on board with that. What I'm finding hard to swallow is that Annabelle plans to take Deedee and run away after she legalizes the adoption. Does she plan on taking Tucker with her? I honestly don't know. I'm super confused about this. The book states that Annabelle and Tucker are stock-piling the injections until they can make their own, but it also makes it seem like Annabelle is planning on leaving Tucker behind when she leaves town because Tucker is only family *for now*. Sighs. So confused. The cat thing at the end I saw coming as soon as the mind controlling pixie thing was brought to light. Still, why would it stop Deedee from going to the wedding? Where is the logic in that? Why would it risk exposing itself for something so trivial when nothing could come of it? Color me confused, once again. All things considered, I still really enjoyed the book. I would definitely still recommend this series to anyone who loves UF and I will definitely buy the next book in this series when it comes out.
